NAME: Larry B.

SOBRIETY DATE: June 17, 2000

My name is Larry B,

I’ve had a problem with methamphetamine for around 15 years, and before that a drinking problem. I began trying to clean up in 1991, and after a couple rehabs, many meetings, a handful of sponsors, countless attempts and failures, the courts sent me to the Puente House as a last attempt before sending me to prison. I’ve done the “Sober Living” thing before, so this didn’t seem like such a great idea to me, but of course I had no choice. (It seemed odd to me at the time that the name “Puente House” carried some weight in the eyes of the judge, but I was grateful for it, and of course now I understand the reasons behind it).

The atmosphere at Puente House was like nothing I’ve experienced before, very positive, cheerful, yet well structured. The rules were a little stricter than I was used to, but not unreasonable. I remember feeling very safe there. I learned how take the actions necessary to stay not only sober, but comfortable with being sober. I’ve been happy, I’ve been sober, but until then I had never been both at the same time.

To make a long story short, although my intention was to get back out on my own as soon as possible, by the time I completed the one year the courts imposed on me, I had decided to stay longer. I lived at the Puente House for over two years, and that gave me a foundation that’s serving me well to this day. Puente House taught me how do AA successfully, something I didn’t know how to do, even though I thought I did. The camaraderie I had, and still have, with my Puente House family are a big part of who I am today. Although I no longer live there, I still consider it my home.

Now I’m successful professional man and college student with a 4.0 GPA. Two and a half years ago I was recruited to work at a very high-end medical model treatment center; in fact I’m a supervisor at one of the top 5 treatment centers in the country. Many many times, when we are unsuccessful in helping a client, we send them to the Puente House. In a lot of cases they, like me, are able to find what they need there, when all other attempts have failed.

I strongly advise anyone with a drinking or drug problem to let the Puente House help you. As someone who works in this field, I can honestly say I haven’t seen anyplace better or more successful at any price. If you’re having a hard time deciding what to do, or which sober living will work, this is the one!

Sincerely,
Larry B.
